Good Morning! With the Border Country Sports Report, I’m Keith Harrington. 

VPA Announces Girls State Tournament Pairings 

The Vermont Principals Association announced the girls pairings for the 2023 Vermont Basketball State Championships on Sunday. The “Road to Barre” and “Road to UVM” begins Tuesday with play-in round games. 

Several local teams have their sights set on reaching “The Aud” or Patrick Gymnasium for the state Final Four. 

In Division IV, 20-0 West Rutland has demolished every opponent who got in their way this season. The Golden Horde are the #1 seed and received a bye. Westside will face the winner of #8 Danville vs. #9 Proctor on Feb. 24. 

Poultney just concluded their best season in recent memory. The 14-6 Blue Devils were awarded the #6 seed and will open tournament play at Capman Court tomorrow night against #11 Northfield. It will be the first home playoff game for Poultney in several years. 

MSJ is seeded #10 and will travel to #7 Williamstown Wednesday night to tangle with the Blue Devils. 

#4 Arlington will take on the winner of a play-in game between Twinfield and Cabot on Tuesday evening. 

#5 Long Trail will host #12 Mid Vermont Christian also on Tuesday. 

In Division II Fair Haven earned the #2 seed. The Slaters will open play Tuesday night at home against #15 Montpelier. 

Otter Valley is seeded #16 and will take on #17 U-32 in a play-in game tonight. 

In Division I, Rutland, perhaps the hottest team in the state, was given the #2 seed and received a first round bye. Rutland will await the winner of #7Burlington and #10 BFA-St. Albans. 

Burr and Burton is ranked #5 and will face #12 Brattleboro at home in Manchester on Tuesday. 

The Division II, III and IV championship games are scheduled for March 4th at the Barre Auditorium. 

The Division I title game will be contested March 3rd at UVM’s Patrick Gymnasium.
