John A. “Jack” Pacyna

John A. "Jack" Pacyna, 90, of Granville passed away on Friday, Jan. 2, 2009 at Glens Falls Hospital following a brief illness.

Jack was born on Dec. 20 1918 in Mineville, N.Y., the son of Michael and Katherine (Huchro) Pacyna. He was raised in South Poultney, Vt.
Jack is predeceased by his son, John S. Pacyna, his parents, five brothers, Anthony, Adam, Frank, Joseph and Paul, as well as six sisters, Sophie Smyrski and Mary Cabaj of Poland and Anna Quinn, Frances Brower, Nellie Rice and Helan Woods.
Jack is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lucretia (Seferlis) Pacyna; his daughter Cathy, a son-in-law, Greg Oliver, his grandson, Zachary Oliver and a sister-in-law, Theresa Pacyna as well as a few cousins and many nieces, nephews and their children.
Jack entered the U.S. Army and served from 1941-1945. He then returned to Granville and worked for the Evergreen Slate Company. In 1960, Jack and Lucretia acquired Harry’s Restaurant from Harry and Pauline Seferlis, Lucretia’s parents. They owned and operated the business for 39 years.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 11 a.m. at the Assembly of God Church, 18 Bulkey Avenue, Granville with Pastor Bill Steinmetz officiating. Interment will be in the spring at Mettowee Valley Cemetery in Granville.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made in his name to the Granville Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 153, Granville, NY 12832.
