Adirondack League Girls Hoop Race Down to the Wire

Last week I took a glance at the Adirondack League boys basketball race as the season starts to head toward a conclusion. Today I thought it was time to look at the ADK girls race. Unlike the boys who have 5 or 6 serious contenders, the cream seems to have already risen to the top on the girl’s side. The real question is, who will claim the fourth and final playoff spot?

Corinth, Warrensburg, and Hartford have established themselves as serious threats to claim the crown, all but locking down spots in the league playoffs barring a complete collapse. Everyone else is just hoping to get in the tournament.

Corinth is sitting on top of the league right now with a 6-0 mark. The River Hawks survived unscathed while Emily Dingmon was still recovering from a knee injury. With Dingmon back Corinth is even more dangerous. Their toughest game left is at Hartford on January 26th.

Warrensburg is 6-1 in the league. The Burghers defeated Hartford 46-33 but fell to Corinth 54-27. The toughest two remaining games for Scott Smith’s team seem to be at Whitehall on January 26th and home against Granville on January 31st.

Hartford is also 6-1 with their only league loss against Warrensburg. The Tanagers can stake their claim to the number one spot if they can take down Corinth in a little over a week at the Ella Colvin Gym. Hartford also has to play at Granville, a team that beat them by 16 in a non-league affair.

Granville may be the most talented team of the rest of the league. However, the Golden Horde had a baffling loss at North Warren and fell to Lake George in OT. Wins over Hartford and Whitehall show how good Dan Brown’s team can be. Victories over Argyle and Fort Ann in their next two games could propel Granville right back into the playoff race, but the Golden Horde will still need some help from upsets.

Whitehall sits at 3-2 in the league and controls their destiny to take the 4th seed in the ADK playoffs. The Railroaders still have to play Corinth and Warrensburg, but if they take care of business in the games they should win they are in the driver’s seat for a tournament spot. Friday night’s game against Hadley-Luzerne could be the difference maker.

Hadley-Luzerne is also in a spot to earn the 4th seed. A win at Whitehall Friday night would put them in an advantages position. That would make the Eagles 5-2 with only Argyle and Lake George left on their league slate. Winning out would hand them the final ADK playoff spot.
