Residents and staff at Slate Valley Center in Granville, New York, had a great time on “Care That Moves You Day” as they all took part in several activities designed to get residents moving and get better.

The special day, which was on Wednesday, Aug. 2, came from the 88-bed skilled nursing facility’s corporate body, Centers Health Care, whereby the idea of “moving” has a special meaning for both residents and staff. Moving can lead to getting residents out of isolation, eliminate loneliness and in a therapeutical sense, moving puts residents on the road to recovery and go home.

“Residents here and our staff keep talking about how special Care That Moves You Day was,” said Andrea Kelley, Recreation Director at Slate Valley Center.  “From our recreation department to rehabilitation and throughout the building, the talk was all about moving, having fun and getting together with everyone so no one should be lonely and being by themselves.  The pandemic is over, isolation needs to be a thing of the past.”

At Slate Valley Center, the facility was all about moving, they had a great special moving session led by physical therapist Charles Lubrica, plus a special lunch, pet therapy, and lastly, gave a “Get Moving Gift Basket” to a special Certified Nursing Assistant, Alyssa Clemons, who was part of leading the charge to get residents moving. The facility would like to thank the Granville Family Diner for the special lunch and Gemini Fitness in Granville for their generous donation of a one-month free at the local gym.

The honor goes to Charles Lubrica, a well-loved and admired physical therapist.
