Jordan touts statewide firefighter recruitment day

Assembly Minority Leader Pro Tem Tony Jordan (R,C,I-Jackson) is pleased to announce that the RecruitNY program will take place again at volunteer fire departments throughout the state Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28. Volunteer fire departments will be opening their doors to educate the public about becoming a volunteer first responder. This is done in an effort to attract and enlist more volunteers.

“The roles of our volunteer firefighters and first responders are critical in keeping communities safe, but it has been increasingly challenging to find well-qualified volunteers, which is why programs like RecruitNY are so important,” said Jordan. “Anyone who is driven to serve their community should look into volunteering with our local firefighters, there is a great sense of camaraderie and accomplishment in the work they do. I encourage everyone to attend and consider volunteering.”

The statewide recruitment drive is set for Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28. A full listing of specific fire departments participating can be found at www.recruitny.org. Many fire departments are planning demonstrations and are eager to answer questions residents may have. For specific details, residents are encouraged to contact their local fire department.

Jordan says that volunteer firefighters save taxpayers an estimated $7 billion annually. These volunteer first responders have played an integral role in combating escalating property taxes in our communities.
