The Wells Village School will have a familiar face back in third grade this year.  Carol Wincowski, who taught at the school four years ago, is coming back after serving as principal of Christ the King School in Rutland.

Principal Linda O’Leary said the fifth and sixth grades, each of which has eight students, will be combined this year, with one teacher working full-time and the other part-time.

The school, which was scheduled to open Wednesday, has 78 students in grades kindergarten through six. O’Leary said she hopes to be able to offer prekindergarten next year.

“We’re just really excited to get back to school,” she said after a series of meetings Monday. “We’re looking forward to having the students back here.”

There were no major construction projects at Wells this year, O’Leary said, noting that the school does have new lunch tables and has added several pieces of playground equipment.

Students can be dropped off as early as 7:30 a.m., and school starts at 7:50 a.m. Dismissal is at 2:40 p.m., and there is an after-school program.
