Soccer, football teams honored for work in classroom

Two of Whitehall’s athletic teams were recently honored for their achievements in the classroom.

Officials announced that the varsity football and varsity soccer teams were presented with New York State Public High School Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete Team Awards.

At the end of each sport season, the NYSPHSAA honors teams that excel in the classroom.

In order to qualify for this distinction, the cumulative grade point average of the entire team must equal at least 90 percent during the first marking period.

The girl’s soccer team cumulative grade point average during this past season was 92.965 percent and sixteen player earned distinction for their work in the class room. They were: Emily Sweeney, Rachel Lavin, Rebecca Lavin, Paxton Peterson, Victoria Christian, Cariana Jones, Payton Bessette, Shelby Keane, Brittney Putorti, Marissa Alexander, Caitlyn Sanford, Olivia Short, Kelsie Farley, Ariel Ayers, Kendra Rocque and Emily Harker.

The football team’s cumulative grade point average during the past season was 90.920 percent and 12 players earned distinction. They included: Josh Hoagland, Brett Christian, Justin Hoagland, Codie Bascue, John Diekel, Zach Diekel, Brandon Donaldson, Dillion Ramey, Brandon Steves, Blake Benjamin, David Rich and Carl Rehm.
