Hollister shoots perfect score

 By Jim Lafayette

Whitehall’s John Hollister pulled off the difficult task of a perfect score last week as the Whitehall Rifle Club topped hosted Fort Edward, 984-942.

A perfect score is nothing new to Hollister as this is the 40th time he has done it, but none the less it is a rare event. Of all the hundreds of shooters who have competed in the Tri County Rifle League, fewer than 10 have been able to do this and six of them have been from the Whitehall Rifle Club.

Hollister’s last perfect score was in February 2005; his first was in March 1978.
In last week’s match, match Dick McMore continued his solid shooting to get the second spot with 198 while Pete Steffan was only a plug away with 197.  Jason Pratt was fourth with 196.

In the fifth spot was Jim McGinnis whose 193 put him on the team for the first time in his shooting career.  McGinnis hails from North Clarendon, Vt., and has been with the club for two seasons.

Backup for the Whitehall Club came from Nate Lipka with 193, Louie Pratt and Dan Holcomb with 192 while Doug Wilson chad 191.

This week Moreau comes to the Whitehall Range before the locals hit the road again.  Whitehall is pretty comfortable on its home turf; Moreau will have its hands full if it hopes to pull off an upset.

The Junior Shooting Program will begin at 10 a.m. on Feb. 5 at the Hollister Road Range.  Parents or guardians are required to be present to sign permission slips.
