Frances Raila Sufnarski, 91

Frances Raila Sufnarski, age 91, passed away on Sept. 20, 2010, at Indian River Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a long illness.
Fran was born on Sept. 5, 1929, in Amsterdam, the daughter of William and Veronica (Milauskas)  Raila.
Fran attended St. Casimir’s Grade School and graduated from William Lynch High School in 1947. Fran also graduated from the St. Margaret’s School of Nursing at St. Margaret’s Hospital. Her nursing career was spent caring for ill and abandoned children.
Fran married Stanley Sufnarski in 1951. After her marriage she filled the role of loving wife and mother to Stan and her family. Fran was a wonderful homemaker who enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting. She loved cultivating the beauty of the earth by gardening, both flowers and vegetables. Her kind and loving nature extended to animals as well as people. Fran enjoyed playing cards, but her finest pleasure was the challenge of a great game of rummy against her favorite opponent, her daughter Susan. Fran always enjoyed the fellowship of friends at the Wells (Vt.) United Methodist Church.
Fran was predeceased by her husband, Stanley Sufnarski, and three sisters, Sophie Richardson, Millie Kavanaugh and Jane Sheppie.
Survivors are a son, Michael Sufnarksi and his wife, Tonya, and their children Morgan and Mason, all of North Carolina; and a daughter, Susan Billow and her husband, Stephen, of East Poultney, Vt. She is also survived by a granddaughter, Cheryl-Lyn Cross and her husband, Richard, and their children Sean and Daniel of New York City. In addition, survivors include four nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Patricia Degutis of Amsterdam.
In keeping with Fran’s wishes there will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held on Friday, Sept. 24, at 10 a.m. at the Robert M. King Funeral Home, 23 Church St., Granville, with the Rev. David Adams of the Wells United Methodist Church officiating. A committal and burial service will be held at the Gerald B. H. Solomon National Cemetery at 1 p.m.
