Norma Elaine Bruce, 76, of Whitehall, went into the arms of Our Lord at Glens Falls Hospital, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, February 14, 2009.

Born on April 5, 1932 at the Glens Falls Hospital, she was the daughter of the late LeRoy V. and Dorothy Mae (Butler) Williams.

 Norma graduated third in her class from Whitehall High School, Class of 1949.  She worked in her father’s drug store (Williams Pharmacy) in her hometown for many years until the store closed. 

On Aug. 27, 1955 she married William H. Bruce of Whitehall.

She was a Girl Scout leader for over 15 years, taught Sunday school for many years at the United Methodist Church in Whitehall and worked part-time at a local pizza shop.  She enjoyed working with her hands doing crocheting, sewing and many kinds of crafts.  She loved children and spending time with her family.   She also loved cats and thought the world of all six of hers.  They became her best friends.

Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, William H. Bruce, and her three brothers, LeRoy V. Williams, Jr., and his wife, Rose Williams of Highland, N.Y., Donald E. Williams of Whitehall and Douglas H. Williams of Hubbardton, Vt.

She is survived by her two daughters, Lori Paddock and her fiancé, Ernie Dashnaw of South Glens Falls and Lisa Juckett and her husband, Frank of Clemons; four grandchildren, Jamie L. Paddock and his fiancé, Kristie Mach of Fair Haven, Christopher M. Paddock and his fiancé, April Suttle of Whitehall, Stephen M. Rozell and his fiancé, Elissa DeGroff of Whitehall and Michael S. Rozell of Whitehall; four great grandchildren, Landon Reise Rozell, Layden Ryan Rozell, Khloe Elizabeth Paddock and Danny Mach and several other sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of Norma’s life was held on Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 11 a.m. at the Jillson Funeral Home, Inc., 46 Williams Street, by Pastor Kelly Warner of the South Glens Falls United Methodist Church, officiating.  Following the ceremony, family and friends were invited for a time of fellowship and refreshments at the home of Frank and Lisa Juckett, at 34 County Route 6, Clemons.

Interment will be in the spring at Greenmount Cemetery in Whitehall.

Family and friends were invited to call at the funeral home on Tuesday, Feb. 17 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

The family suggests that rather than flowers, that donations in Norma’s memory may be made to the Skenesborough Emergency Squad, P. O. Box 333, Whitehall, NY 12887-0333, as they have been fantastic with Norma may times over the last few years.
