Brian Rozell’s response to the Whitehall town board was quick.
He resigned.
Rozell, the now former highway superintendent who is at the center of an investigation into the use of fuel oil at the town highway garage, sent in his letter of resignation to the board on Oct. 31.
While several races were not even close, the main event in Whitehall will all come down to the absentee ballots.
Not many people can say that their relative helped to found a town that helped shape a nation and a branch of the military.

The Whitehall town board is not asking highway superintendent Brian Rozell to be at the next meeting on Nov. 6.
They are demanding it.
Robert Putorti made sure he had his chance to clear the air.
Putorti, who was named in the Washington County Sheriff Department’s report on possible misuse of gasoline at the Whitehall town garage, read a letter to the members of the town board on Tuesday stating when he used the fuel and under whose directions.

The Whitehall town board is looking to cut wherever it can.
Board members discussed several cost-cutting measures at the Oct. 20 town budget meeting, including cutting the pay of the town clerk and town highway superintendent.
“If we make the town clerk a part-time salary position, I think that there is a chance for reduction here,” said town councilman David Waters. “The main thing that she does while she is here is sell dump tickets, and she could be in the office on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday and work from her home the rest of the week.”
Members of the Whitehall town highway department have been filling their gas tanks with town fuel, according to an investigation compiled by the Washington County Sheriff’s Department.
