Tanagers Win Barnburner over Lakers
The Hartford girls basketball appears to be peaking at the right time. The Tanagers thrust themselves into the Adirondack League playoff picture, winning a 62-60 barnburner over Lake George Tuesday night.
The Tanagers trailed 58-57, but an Ava Nadeau bucket and two free throws from Mckenzie Johnson gave Hartford a 61-58 lead with 18 seconds to go.
Mykah Collier-Fisher scored for Lake George to pull them within 61-60 with 4.5 seconds.
The Lakers fouled Audrey Fiske who went to the line and made one of two free throws with 2.2 seconds left to clinch the win for the Tanagers.
Hartford led 14-8 after the first quarter and 29-22 at the break.
The Lakers outscored Hartford 38-33 over the final two quarters, but the Tanagers made the big plays down the stretch.
Fiske paced Hartford with a double-double, scoring a career-high 20 points and pulling down 14 rebounds.
McKenzie Johnson added 15 points and Cailin Severance 11 for the Tanagers,
Three Lake George players registered double-doubles. Madyson Brennan finished with a game-high 21 points and pulled down 10 boards to lead Lake George.
Morgan Stanco added 14 points and 15 rebounds, and Collier-Fisher had 13 points and 13 boards for the Lakers.
Hartford raised their mark to 3-2, 7-4 Lake George dropped to 4-2, 7-4.
Riverhawks Stay Unbeaten in ADK with Balanced Effort
Corinth used a balanced scoring effort to stay unbeaten in Adirondack League play with a 52-16 victory over Salem on Tuesday evening. Five players scored eight or more points for the Riverhawks.
Whitney Cameron filled up the stats sheet with 13 points, seven steals, and five assists for Corinth.
Caitlyn Crossman, Sage Shanahan, and Heather Pita each added nine points for the Riverhawks.
Kennedy Jackson led the Generals with five points.
Corinth is 5-0, 7-3.
Big First Quarter Lifts Warrensburg over Scots
Warrensburg jumped out to a 19-0 lead after the first quarter and went on to defeat Argyle 44-31 in an Adirondack League Girls Basketball match-up on Tuesday.
The Scots outscored the Burghers over the middle quarters to cut the deficit to 34-24 heading to the fourth, but the Burghers held them off.
Elli York finished with 18 points for Warrensburg.
Brie Reid led Argyle with 10 points and Ava Cormie finished with nine for the Scots.
Granville Girls Grapplers Defeat Bulldogs
The Granville girls wrestling team rolled to an easy 35-0 win over Burr and Burton in a non-league match.
Forfeits were the theme of the evening. There were double forfeits in six weight classes.
Gracie Hall, Sage Ingleston, Alison Bushman, Carriella Phillips, Jaymie Landon, Madelaine Wilson, and Amara Towne earned points for the Hammers.
Landon won by fall in 1:46 at 145 pounds. Town pinned her opponent in 26 seconds at 165.
Poultney Rallies Past Leland & Gray
Poultney trailed at the break but rallied over the final two quarters to defeat Leland & Gray 57-48 in girls high school basketball.
The Rebels led 34-23 at halftime but the Blue Devils outscored them 18-3 in the third.
Poultney held Leland & Gray to just three second-half field goals.
Annaleice Taylor nailed five 3-pointers and finished with 17 points for the Blue Devils, 14 in the second half.
Hailey Hayes and Jacque Oberg added 15 points each.
Poultney raised their mark to 3-4.
Three Straight for Slaters
The Fair Haven boys basketball team won their third straight as they topped Mount Abraham 71-49.
Phil Bean had another huge game, pouring in 34 points for the Slaters.
Max Kyhill contributed 15 points, all from behind the arc. Jack Almeida added nine and Sam Kyhill had seven.
Hayden Lutz led Mount Abe with 14 points.
Fair Haven is now 6-3.
