Fair Haven Moves to 2-0 on the Gridiron

Fair Haven fell behind early, but went on to defeat North Country 34-6 in Vermont High School football Friday night at LaPlaca Field.

The Falcons led 6-0 after a quarter, but the Slaters scored 34 straight points after that.

Fair Haven hit paydirt three times in the second quarter to seize control. Max Kyhill began the Slater’s scoring with a TD run. Jack Almeida hauled in a 43-yard scoring strike from Cody Adams. Next, Adans connected with Kyhill on a seven-yard touchdown pass.

In the fourth, Sam Kyhill added a scoring run and Adams hooked up with Almeida again to close the scoring.

Fair Haven is 2-0. North Country is 0-2.

Corinth/Hadley-Luzerne Win in Return

Corinth/Hadley-Luzerne made their return to varsity high school football a successful one, blanking Coxsackie-Athens 20-0 Friday night.

The Mountaineers led 12-0 at the half and pulled away in the fourth quarter.

C/HL began the scoring on a touchdown pass from Avery Wood to CJ Parker.

Keegan Baker added a scoring scamper in the second quarter to make it 12-0 at the break.

In the fourth Hunter LaBrake recovered a fumble in the end zone to provide the final score.

Mountaineers coach Brian Bowe praised the defense for a strong effort.

“They swarmed to the football all night long,” Bowe said.

Corinth/Hadley-Luzerne is 1-0. Coxsakie-Athens is 0-1.

Tanagers and Scots Tie at Mehan Tournament

Defense was on the menu as Hartford and Argyle finished in a 0-0 overtime tie in the consolation game of the Meehan Invitational Tournament in Stillwater.

Daman Duhame of the Tanagers and the Scot’s Connor Quist both were flawless, recording shutouts in goal.

Drew Durkee and Nolin LaCross had some excellent shots for Hartford.

Landon Earl, Trevor Baker, and Bryton Mandigo played well for the Tanagers.

Kaden Bush, Landon Buck, and Jaiden Bapp played strong games for Argyle.

Fort Ann Edges Hudson Falls

The Tanagers outshot the Scots 8-3 but could not connect with the back of the net.

Fort Ann led at the half and defeated Hudson Falls 3-2 in non-league boys soccer.

All the scoring came in the first half as Fort Ann fashioned a 3-2 advantage.

It appeared that the Cardinals were going to cruise to an easy win as Brayden Winchell, Gavin Lehoisky, and Josh Dornan scored to give Fort Ann a 3-0 lead.

Nate Gonyea and Mason VanDein pulled the Tigers within a goal at the break.

Hunter Wade had eight saves for Fort Ann. Mason Leerkes stopped five shots for Hudson Falls.

Argyle Volleyball Opens with a Win

The Argyle volleyball team opened the season with a 3-1 non-league win over Cambridge on Thursday.

Set scores were 25-21, 22-25, 25-17, 25-19.

Delainey Bates led the way for the Scots with 12 kills, 1 block, and 7 service points. Brianne Reid contributed 5 kills, 3 assists, and 11 service points. Rebecca Campbell chipped in 9 digs, 5 aces, and 4 assists.

lsabel Darfler had 3 kills, and 4 blocks for the Tigers. Gabby Hackman added 4 kills, and 5 service points. Talia Cochran had 3 kills, and 6 service points.

Argyle is 1-0. Cambridge is 0-1.
