Horde Roll in Opener
The Granville boys soccer team impressively opened the season, rolling over Saratoga Catholic 6-0 in a non-league matchup on Wednesday.
The Golden Horde led 2-0 at the half and added four more goals in the second half to put the game out of reach.
“We’re a young team, but we’re excited to compete,” new head coach Alejandro Stowhas said. “We have a great combination of returning players and first-year soccer athletes to get on the field.”
Matt Vladyka led Granville with a hat trick, hitting the back of the net three times.
Matt Ruigrok scored twice and Carter Lehoisky chipped in a goal for the Golden Horde.
Elyas Al-Assere picked up two assists. Cameron Rathbun, Noah Bernard, Camden Woodruff, and Ruigrok also chipped in assists.
Noah Teer recorded the shutout with five saves in his varsity debut in goal.
The defense in front of Teer limited the Saints to just five shots on goal.
Granville is 1-0. Spa Catholic is 0-1.
Bolton-Warrensburg Blanks Hoosic Valley
Bolton-Warrensburg opened up the 2024 season on the road with a 3-0 non-league win over Hoosic Valley.
The game was scoreless at halftime. but B-W scored three times in the second half to claim the victory.
Maille Kelly, Elli York, and Hailey Goodspeed scored second-half goals for B-W.
Avril LaFountain was credited with an assist on Kelly’s goal.
Emma Anand and Ella Hens were credited with the shutout in goal for B-W. Hannah Daken.
Halley LeBrecque, Caitlin O’Donnell, and Zailey Baker played well on defense, limiting Hoosic Valley to just three shots on goal.
Bolton-Warrensburg improves to 1-0 on the season.
Fort Ann Girls Cruise Over Crown Point
The Fort Ann girls soccer team won their second game in a row, cruising past Crown Point in a non-league contest.
The Cardinals led 3-0 at the half and tacked on four more goals in the second half.
Fort Ann received two goals from Savannah Aratare as five players found the back of the net in a balanced effort.
Lillian Trzaskos. Lucia Van Kirk, Cherokee Steves, and Olivia Winchell all added goals. The Cardinals also received an own goal.
Baylee Wright earned the shutout in goal. Hailey Lacey stopped 14 shots for Crown Point.
Fort Ann is 2-0. Crown Point is 0-1.
Fair Haven Tops MSJ
The Fair Haven boys soccer team won their second straight to begin the season, topping MSJ 4-1 on Thursday.
Jace Hetrick led the Slaters with three goals and an assist.
Jack Spaulding added a goal for Fair Haven.
Logan Hauke scored the only goal for the Mounties.
Max Carrabino had five saves in goal for the Slaters.
David Franzoni stopped six shots for MSJ.
Fair Haven is 2-0 on the season.
