MIDDLE GRANVILLE – A fire of as yet undetermined origin has claimed the life of 75-year-old Gene Bassett. According to NYS Police, Bassett was located deceased inside the 295 County Route 21 residence after the fire was extinguished. First responders reported the home to be fully engulfed in flames upon their arrival.

Several fire companies from around Granville and Vermont were called to the scene. Troopers say the investigation into the fire is continuing.

Middle Granville Fire Chief Antonio Landon says there no injuries to first responders and wished to thank all the fire companies that responded to the scene. NYVT Media will post more on this story as it becomes available.
