GRANVILLE/HOOSICK FALLS – On August 27, State Police in Granville received a report of a vehicle stolen during the overnight hours from outside a home in Granville. A search of the area was conducted and the vehicle was located the next morning by the Granville Police Department abandoned in the area of Quaker Street in the village.

On August 29, at about 5:20 a.m., State Police from Brunswick responded to a disturbance involving five juveniles in the village of Hoosick Falls. During the investigation into that incident, information was developed that two juveniles who had been involved fled in a vehicle. The three additional juveniles ,14, 15, and 16 years of age, were taken into custody; two were returned to guardians, and the third was turned over to Washington County authorities.

During the investigation, it was determined the vehicle involved had been stolen from Salem hours prior. A search of the area located a vehicle matching the description driving on River Road in Hoosick, where Troopers attempted to stop the vehicle. The juvenile driver failed to comply, and a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit continued but was terminated for safety concerns near the New York State and Vermont border. The vehicle was later located with the assistance of the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office and Hoosick Falls Police Department in the area of State Route 22 in Hoosick. Two juveniles ,ages 14 and 16, were in the vehicle and taken into custody. The 16-year-old driver was transported to the State Police barracks in Brunswick for processing. They were charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the fourth degree, Criminal Tampering in the third degree, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in the third degree, and numerous Vehicle and Traffic Law violations. They were then released with an appearance ticket returnable to the Rensselaer County Court-Family Court at a later date.

The investigation determined, with the assistance of the Hoosick Falls Police Department, that one of the 16-year-olds taken into custody at the location of the disturbance, allegedly stole both of the vehicles involved in this incident and the one from the one from Granville. The juvenile was transported to the State Police barracks in Greenwich for processing on two counts of Grand Larceny in the third degree. The subject was arraigned in Washington County Family Court and turned over to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office for further proceedings.
