NORTH GRANVILLE – A fire, apparently started by a lithium battery, destroyed the LaRock family home on Dekalb Road Sunday morning. There were no injuries to any family members, but tragically three dogs did perish in the flames.
According to North Granville Fire Chief Scott McCullen, two sisters were home when the fire started. One, 12 -year-old Adyson Lincoln-Lynch, who Chief McCullen says kept a calm head, used the fire training she had received at school and from her mother Samantha, was able to rescue her younger sister from the inferno. McCullen says “there is no doubt, she is a hero.”
McCullen tells NYVT Media, the home was fully involved on their arrival and he immediately called for a second alarm and tankers, as water had to be transported to the site. More than 10 companies from New York and Vermont battled the flames until well into the afternoon. The chief was full of praise for all the firefighters who responded and those who brought water and substance to all working so hard to bring the fire under control.
The community is helping out.
Chief McCullen says he and the department are setting up funds to help the family out through this tragic event. Telescope Casual Furniture is also presenting the family with a check to help them rebuild. Housing is needed for a family of seven, two adults and five children. If you are able to help out, you can contact the North Granville Fire Department.
