Cambridge man charged with possession of “ghost” guns
JACKSON/EASTON – State Police say a Cambridge man is facing two counts of possessing a unserialized and illegal handgun, as well as an illegal high-capacity magazine.
According to troopers they responded to a report of a vehicle off the road along NYS Route 372 in Jackson the evening of July 18. The driver, identified as 22-year-old Cian S. Nolan, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Saratoga Hospital for treatment. During the investigation, troopers discovered the loaded handgun and magazine inside the vehicle.
On the morning of July 31, troopers stopped Nolan again on NYS Route 372, this time in Easton for a motor vehicle violation. During the stop an additional unserialized load handgun was found in his vehicle and seized.
Nolan was arrested and transported to the Washington County Correctional Facility to await court proceedings on the weapons charges as well as vehicle and traffic law violations. The investigation into the “ghost” guns is continuing.

July 25
3 p.m. – Officers stood by while a Granville resident took photographs of a Columbus Street building pursuant to a court order.
4 p.m. – Patrols responded to the Pember Library in response to a complaint about youths running up and down the stairs. After they were told to leave, one of the youths apparently threw a tomato that had been disposed of in a nearby garbage can at the building. The complainant simply wanted police to be aware of the incident.
July 26
7:45 a.m. – Police responded to a parking lot at the Telescope Casual Furniture manufacturing plant for a report of several unauthorized vehicles parked there. Officers spoke to the drivers, who told them they were employees at the Amazon distribution center and had parked in the lot to sleep. After being told, they were not allowed to do so, they left the area.
7:45 p.m. – While on patrol, police responded to a report of fireworks on North Street. When they arrived on the scene, officers spoke with a New York State trooper who told them he had called the incident in to dispatch. A check of the area found no further fireworks use.
July 30
7:30 a.m. – A caller asked police to check on what he described as a suspicious male on the rail trail who appeared to be performing some sort of yoga routine. Officers located the yoga performer, who appeared to be intoxicated. He told police he was going to get something to eat and was last seen walking on Main Street toward Quaker Street. Police later received several notifications about the same man on Potter Avenue and spoke to him again. He again declined a ride and said he was going to a friend’s house. Officers contacted the man’s mother to advise her of their concerns.
10:40 a.m. – A County Route 26 resident called police to inform them of a man carrying a backpack and walking near his property in the early morning hours over the course of several days. The man had been captured on camera several times and, while nothing suspicious has occurred, the caller thought the pattern was strange. The caller was advised to contact other law enforcement agencies, as the location is outside the village’s jurisdiction.
1:31 p.m. – Police were called to East Main Street in response to multiple reports of a fully involved structure fire. Officers rerouted traffic and spoke to witnesses at the scene, then secured the site until Washington County fire investigators could determine the cause, which was deemed electrical in nature.
July 31
7:54 a.m. – Police were called to a Quaker Street business to perform a welfare check on a man who appeared to be sleeping or passed out in his car in the parking lot. The man was preparing to leave when police arrived, but he told them he had arrived early for a job on Morrison Avenue so he decided to take a short nap before reporting to work. Officers observed no signs the man was impaired and described the incident as a “good intent” call.

July 25
4:13 p.m. – State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Route 7 in the Town of Rutland. Through investigation, troopers say 34-year-old Christopher Wilder of Rutland allegedly failed to yield the right of way while making left turn. It was also determined that Wilder had a criminally suspended license. He was subsequently cited to appear in Vermont Superior Court in Rutland at a later date to answer the charge. Troopers say only minor injuries occurred as a result of the accident.
July 27
12:14 p.m. – Troopers say a Quebec resident was seriously injured as the result of a two-car crash on VT. Route 73 in Sudbury. The car driven by 46-year-old Luc Desroches of Boucherville, PQ is alleged to have drifted out of its lane, striking an oncoming vehicle, causing minor injuries to its driver.
Desroches was transported to the Porter Medical Center in Middlebury. State Police says charges against Desroches are pending.
Aug. 1
12:21 p.m. – Troopers were called to the scene of a two-car crash on U.S. Route 7 in the Town of Rutland. The incident report alleges 32-year-old Charles Sweeney of Rutland struck another while attempting to complete a pass. Both vehicles pulled off the road, where through investigation and witness statements, it is alleged Sweeney became threatening and verbally abusive toward the other driver, including racial slurs.
Sweeney was arrested and issued a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court in Rutland to answer a charge of disorderly conduct.

July 29
1:02 p.m. – A deputy observed a vehicle traveling on West Street in the Town of Proctor and conducted a traffic stop. A records check on the driver, 36-year-old Bridjette M. Jones of Rutland, revealed she was wanted on charges of disorderly conduct, excessive speed and resisting arrest. Jones was placed under arrest and held for arraignment in Vermont Superior Court in Rutland.
3:11 p.m. – Deputies are requesting information related to vehicles that were involved in a crash in West Rutland near the intersection with Business Route 4 and Pleasant Street. Interviews with witnesses suggest one vehicle is a silver or grey Toyota Tacoma, the other a green Chevy Astro van with temporary plates. Both vehicles left the scene of the accident, the van headed toward Rutland on Business Route 4, the Tacoma continuing north of Pleasant Street.

10:15 p.m. – A deputy arrested 20-year-old Zachary M. Ward of Clarendon, after locating his vehicle U.S. Route 4, stemming from reports Ward was allegedly operating in a reckless and negligent manner. He is also accused of causing his vehicle to emit a heavy black exhaust smoke creating limited visibility for other drivers.
Ward was released on a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court in Rutland at a later date. This is an ongoing investigation and anyone who may have witnessed or was affected by these actions is encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 802-775-8002.
