Granville Police Beat

July 18

11 p.m. Police were called to a Broadview Terrace residence after a resident reported sighting a black bear in her yard, The bear had been near her garbage cans several weeks ago, the woman told officers. State Department of Environmental Conservation officers arrived and advised the homeowners to keep their garbage cans in the garage and to remove bird feeders from the yard to discourage the bear from returning.

July 19

1:46 p.m. Officers received a report of two youths driving a dune buggy-type vehicle on East Potter Avenue. Police responded and found a 12-year-old and a 14-year-old driving a side-be-side go-kart. Officers spoke to youths about the safety concerns and legality of operating the vehicle on the street. The pair pushed the kart onto the property where they lived. The two were also told the police would be in touch with their parents – who were not home at the time – about the matter.

July 20

8:45 a.m. A Main Street resident called police to complain that a group of youths had been hanging out in a nearby parking lot and creating a disturbance the prior evening. The responding officer said he would advise afternoon and evening patrols and schedule more patrols through the area. He also recommended the complainant contact police more promptly when problems occurred.

3 p.m. Police responded to a fire alarm at a Quaker Street business. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm and Granville fighters cleared the building.

July 21

2 p.m. A North Maple Street resident came to the police station to report a Granville man had driven by her house and struck her parked vehicle with a stick. The woman said there was an ongoing issue between the person she believed was driving the truck and her son and some of his friends. The complainant said she wanted the incident documented and police said they would speak to the apparent driver of the pickup.

July 22

12:52 p.m. Officers received a complaint from a Columbus Street resident that someone had apparently left a bag containing a fish head on the side of the road in front of her house. The complainant said she believed the bag had been left by another woman with whom she was having “boy drama” and who had been seen with bags marked with a logo the same as the one on the bag with the head inside. The complainant disposed of the bag and fish head and said she would contact neighbors to see if there was any security footage of the incident.

July 25

7:45 a.m. A Telescope official contacted police about half a dozen people sleeping in in vehicles one of the company’s parking lots. Officers told the sleepers that they were not allowed to sleep in the lot and to move along. Officers were also asked to check the Telescope parking lots and other recreational lots to prevent overnight stays.

July 21

3:30 p.m. An Albany woman who failed to appear in court on charges filed more than a decade ago turned herself in to authorities. Kimberly Pease, 43, had been charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and second-degree criminal impersonation, both misdemeanors, in connection with a July 11, 2013, incident. Pease had been wanted on a bench warrant after she missed a court appearance to answer the charges.

3:30 p.m. A Granville woman charged last year with drug possession turned herself in after a bench warrant for her arrest had been issued. Joelle McCullough, 35, had failed to appear in court on a misdemeanor charge of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance filed in connection with a May 10, 2023, incident.

New York State Police Beat

July 17

3:59 p.m. – Troopers responded to a report of a vehicle off the road in the area of Reservoir Road in Pittstown. The uninjured driver was identified as 24-year-old Steven Z. Mallory of Hoosick Falls. He was arrested on a charge of DWI and other vehicle and traffic law violations. He was processed at the Brunswick barracks where the incident report says he allegedly recorded a BAC of 0.20%. Mallory was issued a citation returnable in Pittstown Town Court and released in the custody of a sober third party.

July 20

9:02 p.m. – Troopers with the help of NYS Forest Rangers stopped a vehicle on Roosevelt Drive in Saratoga for a vehicle and traffic law violation. The driver was identified as 32-year-old Jay A. Lapler of Fort Ann. Lapler was arrested for DWI and transported to the Saratoga barracks for processing. According to State Police, Lapler refused to provide a sample to determine the alcohol content of his blood.

Further investigation revealed Lapler had a previous DWI conviction within the last ten years. He was issued a citation returnable to Saratoga Town Court and released in the custody of a sober third party.

July 22

10:59 p.m. – State Police from Brunswick responded to a report of a single vehicle crash in the area of NYS Route 40 in Schaghticoke. The driver, identified as 31-year-old Kenneth W. Riddell of Valley Falls, was arrested for DWI and other vehicle and traffic violations. Riddell was processed where he allegedly recorded a BAC of 0.26%. He was issued a citation returned in Schaghticoke Town Court and released to a sober third party.

Fair Haven Police Beat

July 21

Noon: The department arrested 35-year-old Jerry Dunbar of Rutland after learning he was the subject of an arrest warrant issued by the Vermont Department of Corrections for allegedly failing to follow his conditions of furlough release. He was located o Washington Street after officers were following up on a disabled vehicle complaint.

Per the warrant, Dunbar was arrested and lodged at the Marble Valley Correctional Facility pending further court action.

July 23

Following a June 18 incident, 55-year-old Allen B. Parker of Fair Haven was arrested on the charge of disorderly contact by electronic means. It is alleged Parker sent a series of threatening messages to another person. Upon interview, police say Parker admitted to his involvement in the incident.

Parker was arrested and issued a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court at a later date and time to answer the charge.

Rutland County Sheriff’s Office Beat

July 21

12:32 a.m. – Following a traffic stop on Route 4A in Castleton, 48-year-old Christopher S. Carvey of Poultney was arrested on a variety of charges. According to the incident report, a records check revealed Carvey did not possess a valid drivers license and that his privilege to operate a motor vehicle required the use of an ignition interlock device due to previous DUI convictions. Carvey’ car was not equipped with such a device, had no registration or insurance, and displayed license plats not assigned to that vehicle.

Carvey’s vehicle was towed from the arrest scene and he was issued a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court i9n Rutland at a later date.

July 24

On May 28, a deputy was dispatched to investigate a reported retail theft at the Walgreen’s store in West Rutland. Interviews revealed a juvenile had entered the store and left without paying for merchandise.

That juvenile was subsequently located on July 24 at a location in Rutland, where he was arrested and released on citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court – Family Division to answer a charge of ret

July 21

Troopers contacted 51-year-old Monique Teague of St. Albans regarding an alleged assault on a protected professional that took place in Wallingford. Teague was subsequently arrested and process and released on a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court in Rutland at a later date.

July 23

10:19 a.m. – State Police were made aware that a person currently incarcerated at the Marble Valley Correctional Facility was the subject of an extractible warrant from the State of New Jersey. Matthew Osei, age 29, was arrested and taken to the Vermont Superior Court in Rutland to face the charge of being a fugitive from Justice.
