Fort Ann Edges Slate Valley in TCML Softball

After a couple of uncharacteristic rebuilding years, the Fort Ann softball team is again on the rise. Coach Jason Humiston is back. The Cardinals reached the Section II Class D final this spring. And they are the defending champions of the Tri-County Middle League. Oh, and they have a talented young pitcher in Jadyn Mitchell.

Mitchell was outstanding Monday night and the offense did just enough as Fort Ann edged Slate Valley 2-1 in eight innings in a TCML contest.

Mitchell held Slate Valley scoreless until the seventh and recorded 20 strikeouts in earning the win in the circle.

The contest was a pitcher’s dual between Mitchell and Jenna Patch who held Fort Ann scoreless until the fifth. Fort Ann scored a run with the help of a Slate Valley error after a single from Lillian Trzaskos who came around and scored.

Olivia Cole-Bugay blasted a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh to force the extra frame.

In the eighth Gabby Gordon scored on a ball that Slate Valley misplayed to give Fort Ann a 2-1 lead. Cole-Bugay singled in the bottom of the inning for Slate Valley, but Mitchell struck out the last two batters to slam the door shut.

Trazaskos and Brooke Van Ness had two hits apiece for the Cardinals.

Cole-Bugay had the only two Slate Valley hits.

Fort Ann improved to 3-1. Slate Valley is 1-3-1.
