Tanaforts Fall in Class D Thriller

Hartford-Edward came up short in the seventh inning, falling to Hadley-Luzerne 10-9 in a Section II Class D semifinal thriller at Lansingburgh High School. It was the second time the Eagles have won a close contest over the Tanaforts, defeating them 7-6 during the regular season.

No. 2 Hadley-Luzerne advances to face No. 5 Mekeel Christian in the championship game on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at Joe Bruno Stadium. It will be the first trip to the title game for the Eagles since 1968.

Things looked promising for the No. 3 Tanaforts early on. H-FE held a 4-1 lead after the top of the third, but Hadley-Luzerne scored four times in the bottom of the frame to take a 5-4 advantage.

H-FE scored a run in the fifth and two more in the top of the sixth to grab a 7-5, but it was shortlived.

The Eagles rallied with five runs in the bottom of the stanza to retake the lead 10-7.

The Tanaforts received an RBI single from Zach Bartholomew and Danny Boucher drove in a run on a groundout to make it 10-9, the H-FE could not push across the tying run, leaving the bases loaded.

Matt Case and Noah Springer combined on a five-hitter for Hadley-Luzerne with Springer earning the win.

Jacob Bristol paced the Eagles with three singles and two RBIs. Case contributed a double and single.

The Tanaforts got a double and an RBI single from Bartholomew. Boucher, Aiden Swezey, and Logan Jensen each hit an RBI single for the Tanaforts.

Hadley-Luzerne is now 11-8. Hartford-Fort Edward finishes 10-7.

Mekeel Christian Upsets Burghers

No. 5 Mekeel Christian advanced to the championship game, upsetting top-seeded Warrensburg 4-1 in the Section II Class D semifinals.

The Lions scored a run in each of the first two innings to take a 2-0 lead and it turned out to be all of the offense they needed.

Mekeel Christian pitcher Chris Hussey tossed a five-hitter with 14 Ks to lead the Lions.

Caleb and Daniel Hussey both had RBI singles for the Lions. Mekeel Christian put the game away with two runs in the seventh on a single from Adrien Roman.

Daniel Hussey tripled and singled for the Lions. Roman also doubled.

Brady Cheney had an RBI single for the Burghers.

8-10 Mekeel Christian advances to face Hadley-Luzerne in the Class D title game.

Warrensburg ends the season 16-4.
