Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner (D-Round Lake) hosted her annual Women of Distinction Awards on Sunday, April 28, at The Inn at Saratoga.
From a record number of nominations, 15 women were chosen from Saratoga, Warren and Washington counties for their inspiring professional achievements and community efforts.
These included Greenwich High School senior Kiley Allen, who won the annual essay contest. The Assemblywoman congratulated and thanked Allen for her eloquent depiction of Margaret Sanger’s pivotal role in women’s rights.
“Women solve different problems, and they solve problems differently,” Woerner said. “Today we honor ordinary women doing extraordinary things. Many of these women are unaware just how much they have positively impacted our community whether it be in business, education, health care or in community-based organizations. They are true role models for the young women in our community.”
In alphabetical order, the 2024 Women of Distinction in Woerner’s 113th Assembly District are: Sachmarie Crowley, Marlene Countermine, Renee Farley, Pamela Fisher, Cheryl Grey, Kelly Hayes, Mary Beth McCullen, Judy Chittenden Moffitt, Donna Nichols, Jeanne Noordsy, Pamela Polacsek (posthumously), Theresa Skaine, Pamela Stott, Judith Thomas-Solomon and Fran Wurster.
Greenwich High School senior, Kiley Allen, was also presented an award for winning the Women of Distinction’s Essay Contest. The Assemblywoman congratulated Allen and thanked her for her eloquent depiction of Margaret Sanger’s pivotal role in women’s healthcare and women’s rights.
Donna Nichols is a Fort Edward resident who has been the Executive Director of the Moreau Community Center for 14 years. Jeanne Noordsy is the coordinator of the Domestic Violence Project for Warren and Washington Counties.
Nominations for the Women of Distinction program are solicited from residents of the 113th district which in Washington County includes the Village of Hudson Falls, the town and village of Fort Edward as well as the town and village of Greenwich. Women in these localities are welcome to be part of next year’s program.
After the very moving awards ceremony, Woerner asked that the 2024 honorees to please pay it forward. “We all must continue to recognize women leaders in our community for their valuable and inspirational contributions.”
