Granville Wrestlers Place at Jeff Blatnick Tournament

A trio of Granville wrestlers representing the Roague Warriors Wrestling Club placed Saturday at the Jeff Blatnick New York State Olympic Style Wrestling Championships in Binghampton.

AJ Landon won the championship in the 16U 190-pound weight category. Landon rolled through his four matches. In the Round of 16, Landon topped William Coughlin 8-4. Landon blanked Tristen Webb 10-0.

In the semifinals, Landon defeated Ryan Presume 13-4. Landon edged Irving Cruz 9-7 in the championship match.

With the victory Landon punches his ticket to the nationals in Fargo, North Dakota.

AJ’s sister, Jaymie Landon placed third in the Junior Girls Freestyle category. Landon defeated Jansen Derzanovitch 6-2 in the third-place match.

With the win, Jaymie becomes the first Granville female wrestler to qualify for the nationals in Fargo.

Another Granville wrestler, Kaiden Turenne placed first in the 14U Greco Roman category and second in the 14U Free Style division at 165 pounds.

Nathan Barber placed fifth at 144 pounds in 16U freestyle.

Burghers Close ADK Baseball Season with a Win

Warrensburg closed the regular season with a 4-1 win over Lake George in Adirondack League baseball. The Burghers will be the No.1 seed in the ADK championship tournament next week.

Brady Cheney pitched a complete-game one-hitter with 16 strikeouts for Warrensburg.

Caden Allen had the key hit for the Burghers with a double to clear the bases with two out in the bottom of the fifth. Steve Schloss chipped in a pair of hits with a double.

Jack Welch singled for the only hit for the Lakers.

Ben Sheldon pitched well despite taking the loss for Lake George. Sheldon had 6 Ks.

Warrensburg finishes 9-1 in the league and 14-2 overall. Lake George falls to 3-7 in league play.

Granville Softball Rolls Over Cougars

The Granville softball team finished in a first-place tie with Salem after a dominating 20-1 win over North Warren in an Adirondack League softball Friday in Chestertown.

The Golden Horde will be the No. 2 seed in the upcoming league tournament.

Ella Olsen had a huge game for Granville, blasting a pair of home runs. Olsen also singled and finished with a whopping eight RBIs.

Lauren Bascom earned the win in the circle and struck out nine in 3 ⅔ innings of work.

Bascom also had a big game at the plate, with two doubles and an RBI.

Melissa Beaver contributed a pair of hits for the Golden Horde. Lilly Baker doubled.

Addison Swan hit a solo home run for the Cougars. Laci Bruno singled.

Granville finishes the regular season 9-2, 10-3.

Salem-Cambridge Defeats Loudonville Christian

Salem-Cambridge cruised to an 18-8 non-league win over Loudonville Christian in baseball.

Stephen Yakubec led the Generals at the plate with a home run, a double, and two singles. Yakubec finished with seven RBIs.

James Beagle and Cooper Saddlemire each added three hits for the winners. Abe Cushing contributed a home run, double, and three RBIs. Brayton Cary added a double, single, and three RBIs.

Beagle, Drake Webster, and Cary shared time on the bump, combining to strike out 13 batters.
