Santa Fe — Diane M. Prefountaine, formerly of Whitehall, NY, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 6, 2024, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, at the home of her daughter. Diane’s passing was a result of Alzheimer’s disease which she graciously endured. Born on July 24, 1940, she was the daughter of Francis and Susan (Manell) Romeo, and she was the wife of the late Farrell Prefountaine for fifty-three years. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, and aunt who held her family dear. Diane loved the holidays, shopping, quilting and cross stitch. Her devotion to the Lord was important to her. She camped at Monitor Bay in Crown Point with family & friends and enjoyed traveling and attending Broadway plays. Diane worked for WT Burns Insurance and earned her broker’s license. A member of Faith Chapel in Whitehall, serving as treasurer, she held bible studies in her home. She is survived by daughter Marcia Prefountaine, sisters Carole Van Guilder, Linda (Don) Lee, Janice Bessette, nieces, and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Joyce Millett (John), her brother Francis Romeo, in-laws: James Van Guilder and Ron Bessette, Edwin, Katherine (Bezio) & Connie Prefountaine. Alzheimer’s led her to the Life Circle Adult Day Center in Santa Fe, New Mexico, enriching her and her daughter’s lives. Friendships developed that were an invaluable part of the Alzheimer journey, making the experience manageable, joyful, and less isolating. We wish to thank the following for the support given to Diane over the past year, months, and days: Life Circle Adult Day Care Center, Presbyterian Hospice, and longtime friend Mary Johnson, for her unwavering fidelity and love. A service will be held in Whitehall NY on Saturday June 22nd. Donations can be made to Life Circle Adult Day Center at lifecirclenm.org.
