Good Morning! With the Border Country Sports Report, I’m Keith Harrington.
A Huge Night for the Adirondack League
For as long as I can remember the Adirondack League has been dominant in Class D sports. Often teams from the ADK are fighting among themselves for sectional titles. With that in mind, tonight is a huge night for Adirondack League teams.
Between boys and girls basketball four of the eight teams competing in the Class D semifinals tonight are Adirondack League teams. The Hartford girls will try to punch their ticket to their third straight sectional final tonight when they play Bishop Gibbons. The ADK is guaranteed a team in the Class D boys championship game as North Warren and Fort Edward will meet in one semifinal. Argyle will face Loudonville Christian in the other.
It will be the rubber match between No. 2 Hartford and No. 3 Bishop Gibbons tonight at Averill Park. The teams split a pair of regular-season meetings. The Golden Knights beat the Tanagers on their home floor 47-37 in the season opener. Hartford won the rematch 50-48 a couple of weeks ago. The contest is a rematch of last year’s title game won by the Golden Knights. The Tanagers won the 2022 title and advanced to the state Final Four. Hartford enters the game 14-6. Bishop Gibbons is 13-7.
No.1 North Warren and No. 4 Fort Edward will meet in one of the Class D semifinals at Cool Insuring Arena tonight. The Cougars defeated the Flying Forts when they met during the season, but Fort Edward put up a strong effort. Sometimes the spacious confines of the CIA can play a key role. North Warren has plenty of experience there as they won the Class D title in the building a year ago, as well as playing in the state semifinals. The Cougars are 17-4 on the season. The Flying Forts are 9-11.
No. 3 Argyle will tangle with second-seeded Loudonville Christian, a team that defeated North Warren 72-61 early in the season. The Scots edged the Eagles 53-51 back on December 30th. Loudonville Christian is 14-5. Argyle is 14-6.
One thing we know for sure. The Adirondack League will be represented in Saturday’s Class D finals. It’s just a matter of how many teams.
