Fair Haven’s Lee Wins Second State Wrestling Title

Fair Haven’s Trey Lee won his second straight Vermont State wrestling championship on Saturday at Otter Valley High School.

Lee won a 9-0 major decision victory over Lyndon’s Karter Morey to claim the 132-pound crown. Last year Lee won the 126-pound title.

Two other Slaters also placed. Gabe Bache reached the final and finished second for Fair Haven at 165 pounds. Anthony Szabo placed fourth at 126 pounds.

Fair Haven coach Scott Shaddock who is retiring after 32 years at the helm of the Fair Haven program was honored with a plaque.

Mount Anthony won the team title for an unprecedented 35th straight year.

Hartford’s Season Comes to an End

The Hartford boys basketball team saw their season come to an end, falling to defending champion Loudonville Christian 62-49 in the Class D quarterfinals at Stillwater High School. The Tanagers placed four players in double-digits but it wasn’t enough to take down the No. 3 Eagles.

Michael Marshall led the Eagles with 14 points and Christian Staton had 13.

Austin Wells paced Hartford with 13 points.

Aiden Swezey and Nate Fiske each contributed 12 points apiece for the Tanagers. Jesse Baker chipped in 10.

Hartford finishes the season 7-14.

Top-Seeded Cougars Advance in Class D

Top-seeded North Warren began their quest for a repeat title as they handled For Ann 71-36 in the Class D quarterfinals at Stillwater High School.

The Cougars used a balanced scoring attack to advance to meet Fort Edward in the semifinals at Cool Insuring Arena.

Semaj Cuyler led North Warren with 21 points. Derrick Tyrell added 16 and Wyatt Jennings 15. Elijah Horge had 10.

Jaxen Jenkins scored nine points and Javier Hernandez eight for the Cardinals.

North Warren improves to 17-4. Fort Ann concludes the season 4-17.

Forts Fly Into Semifinals

Fort Edward flew into the Class D semifinals, defeating Northville 63-39 at Stillwater High School.

The Flying Forts led 29-9 at the half and were never challenged.

Zach Bartholomew scored a game-high 27 points for Fort Edward.

Calvin Boucher contributed 11 points for the Flying Forts. Danny Boucher and Gabe Glass had nine points each.

Brayden Bovee led the Falcons with 14 points.

Fort Edward is now 10-11.

Saunders Scores Career-High As Scots Roll

Argyle rolled into the Class D quarterfinals, rolling over Hawthorne Valley 73-56 at Stillwater High School.

Brandon Saunders scored a career-high 40 points to lead the Scots. Saunders knocked down eight 3-pointers in the contest.

Dru Austin added 13 points and Brad Koopman had nine for Argyle.

Justin Gamiello had 22 points for Hawthorne Valley. Oliver Towe chipped in 18.

No. 2 Argyle is now 14-6 and will meet No. 3 Loudonville Christian at Cool Insuring Arena on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Fair Haven Defeats Brattleboro

The Fair Haven girls basketball team closed the regular season on a high note, defeating Brattleboro 46-36 on Saturday.

The Slaters led 20-9 at halftime and held on the rest of the way.

Maddy Perry and Izzy Cole led Fair Haven with 13 points each. Kate Hadwen contributed 12 points.

Perry also dished out five assists. Lily Briggs pulled down 11 rebounds.

Reese Croutworst led all scorers with 23 points for the Bears.

Fair Haven ends the regular season 16-4.
