An alleged hit-and-run accident occurred around 9 p.m. Sunday evening on Scottsville Road in Danby, according to the Rutland County Sheriff’s Office.

The vehicle involved was driving eastbound of Scottsville Road, left the north side of the roadway, struck a culvert and continued through the yard of a house, striking a mail box and then the home itself, causing significant damage, according to deputies.

The vehicle continued eastbound for a short distance before tire marks indicate it turned around and left the area westbound on Scottsville Road, according to police.

Debris left at the scene indicates the vehicle was a full-sized Chevy pick-up truck or SUV and may be dark in color. The vehicle sustained heavy damage to the front end, driver’s side and undercarriage.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Sgt. Benjiman Herrick at 802-775-8002.
