The Alfred State men’s wrestling team repeated as AMCC conference tournament champions last weekend as 14 wrestlers placed in the top four and seven earned individual conference titles. A former Granville High School grappler played a key role in the Pioneers’ title.

Brent Perry won the AMCC championship in the 174-pound weight category.

Perry claimed the crown by finishing 3-0 on the day at the event. In his opening match, Perry notched a late first round fall over Zane Anderson (Behrend). He followed with an 8-1 decision over Jimmy Thomas of Hiram to earn a spot in the finals.

In the championship match, Perry outlasted Colton Gietler of Pitt-Bradford by a 5-0 decision.

“Our coaching staff is extremely proud of the efforts of our entire program today,” Alfred Coach Justin Signorelli said. “To run the conference tournament and represent ourselves on and off the mats the way we did all day today was great to see and be a part of.”
