Granville Police Beat

Feb.8

3:18 p.m. – A patrol was dispatched to Veterans Park for a report of a large group of teens in some sort of dispute. They spoke with a female who reported being slapped in the face and identified her attacker. The teens were dispersed and the officer went to the residence of the person identified as having committed the assault. He admitted to the slap, however there were no injuries and no charges were filed.

3:50 p.m. – A patrol responded to South Street for a report of the same group of teens that were earlier in Veterans Park again causing a disturbance. They were again dispersed.

5:30 p.m. – A police officer responded to Madison Street for a report of a loose dog attacking the complainant’s dog in her yard. The dog that was attacked was not injured. The officer patrolled the area looking for the animal with no success. The matter was referred to the Dog Control Officer.

Feb. 9 – An audible alarm was heard coming from a Quaker Street business. The location appeared secure, and the key holder informed dispatch he was on his way to open the location.

Feb. 10

9:15 p.m. – An officer was dispatched to a North Street location for a report of an elderly female in the road. On arrival, the woman was located in the company of another woman who owns an adult-care facility. The facility owner indicated the woman was not taking her medication and was disruptive. EMS was called and the woman was return to the home.

Feb. 11

12:02 p.m. – A woman appeared at the station to complain about being harassed by another individual. The victim was apprised of her legal remedies and the other party was contacted and advised to cease the threats.

7:15 p.m. – A Quaker Street resident reported having fallen down a set of stairs. On the officer’s arrival, the complainant had already returned to his apartment. EMS arrived and evaluated the victim, who refused transport to a medical facility.

9:18 p.m. – A mother came to the station to advise that her daughter had made more than $700 in purchases at a local store, with a debit card she had for use for only what the mother asked her to purchase. The woman was advised there was nothing police could really do and she was advised to confiscate the debit card. Police also spoke with the daughter about the potential consequences of her actions.

10:15 p.m. – At the request of the Vermont State Police a patrol was dispatched to an East Main Street location to search for a Ford F-150 that was reportedly involved in an accident in Vermont. The vehicle was located but the driver was not there. Contact information for the driver was relayed to the Vermont State Police.

Feb. 13

4:03 p.m. – A man came to the station to report he had used an ATM at an area business and forgot to take the $300 he had withdrawn. Police looked at the store’s surveillance video, which showed another individual using the machine a short time later but did not appear to notice the money remaining from the previous transaction. The individual could be seen just reaching down and taking his money, apparently unaware there was still money in the slot. The individual could not be identified from the tape. There was nothing further police could do and the matter was closed.

Feb. 14

5:20 p.m. – Police responded to a report of subjects hanging around a recently evicted property on South Street. Officers responded to the location and advised the two subjects there to leave and not return.

Whitehall Police Beat

Feb. 9

11:30 a.m. Police were called to a Broadway store in response to a complaint that a customer had switched the price tags on two items and paid the lower price on the tags. The store manager did not want to press charges but did want the customer to pay the correct amount for the items she had taken. Officers contacted the customer and requested she return to the store and pay the proper price for the items she had bought. They also advised her that after she had made the payment, she would be barred from the store. No further action was taken.

Feb. 10

8:43 p.m. Officers were dispatched to a South Williams Street address in response to a report of a possible domestic dispute. A neighbor reported that she heard a female crying and items being thrown around. Police spoke to the resident, who told them she had been on the telephone with her sister and had become upset. No one else was in the residence.

Feb. 11

10:30 a.m.  Police patrolled to the Mountain Street area in response to a report of all-terrain vehicles operating in the roadway. No ATVs were located.

2:15 p.m. Village police received a complaint from a Broadway residence that another man had walked by his house and fired a paintball gun at him. However, the man who made the complaint did not file a complaint and no further action was taken.

3 p.m. A Whitehall woman was charged with a misdemeanor for allegedly using a motor vehicle without the owner’s permission. Alexis C. Procella, 25, of North Mountain Street, was charged by village police with third-degree unauthorized use of a motor vehicle after she allegedly failed to return a vehicle she had borrowed. Procella claimed she had taken ownership of the vehicle and had registered it in Vermont. She turned herself in on Feb. 14 and was arraigned on the charge in village court.

Feb. 14

1:06 p.m. A woman came to the Whitehall police station to request assistance with a man sharing her home. The man had left the home between 5:30 and 6 a.m. Police helped the woman contact Glens Falls Hospital’s crisis unit to request a pickup order; the hospital denied the request. Authorities later observed the man walking along U.S. Route 4 between Comstock and Fort Ann and asked local authorities to conduct a welfare check.

New York State Police Beat

The New York State Police issued 6,876 tickets during a special STOP DWI traffic enforcement period over Super Bowl Weekend.

The campaign started on Friday, Feb. 9, and ran through Sunday, Feb. 11.

Troopers increased patrols and conducted sobriety checkpoints to deter, identify and arrest impaired drivers. The initiative was funded by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee (GTSC) and was also carried out by local law enforcement agencies across the state.

During this enforcement period, troopers arrested 139 people on DWI charges, and investigated 245 crashes, which injured 37 people. State police did not respond to any fatal crashes during the weekend.

As part of the enforcement, Troopers also targeted speeding and aggressive driving across the state.

Rutland County Sheriff’s Office Beat

Feb. 10

10:34 p.m. – A deputy observed a vehicle operating without headlights after dark on Main Street in the Town of Rutland. A traffic stop was initiated. The deputy recognized a passenger in the vehicle as 35-year-old Adam J. Collis of Middletown Springs, who was known to have active warrants for his arrest for hunting under revocation and driving on a criminally suspended license. Collis was removed from the vehicle and placed under arrest. He was transported to the Marble Valley Correctional Facility for lack of bail. He is to appear in Rutland Superior Court at a later date.

Feb. 11

4:43 p.m. – A deputy observed a vehicle traveling at 90 mph in a 55-mph zone on U.S. Route 7 in Clarendon and conducted a traffic stop. The operator was identified as 19-year-old Damian J. Duckett of Rutland. Duckett was placed under arrest on the charge of excessive speed and no registration. He was issued a citation to appear in Rutland Superior Court at a later date and released.

7:58 p.m. – A deputy observed a vehicle traveling at 71 mph in a 40-mph zone along Middle Road in Clarendon. As a result, a traffic stop was conducted and the operator identified as 33-year-old Sarah M. Andrews of Clarendon. Deputies also observed Andrews had her two juvenile children in the vehicle with her.

While speaking with Andrews, the deputy observed signs of alleged impairment and conducted a field sobriety test, which Andrews failed to perform satisfactorily. She was then arrested and processed, where she provided an evidentiary breath sample at more than twice the legal limit. Andrews was then charged with DUI, grossly negligent operation of a motor vehicle, excessive speed and reckless endangerment. Andrews was issued a citation to appear in Rutland Superior Court at a later date and released to the custody of a sober individual. Her children were turned over to the custody of a responsible adult.

Feb. 12

7:15 p.m. – A deputy located 27-year-old Dylan K. Hickory at his West Rutland residence and arrested him on an outstanding warrant stemming from a sexual assault case. Hickory was lodged at the Marble Valley Correctional Facility in lieu of $25,000 bail, pending a future court appearance.

8:10 p.m. – Deputies received a call about a woman having allegedly stolen items from a car in the parking lot of a Rutland business. While en route, the deputies were informed the woman, later identified as 45-year-old Joanne Davis, listed as a transient, had allegedly entered a home in West Rutland. Deputies found Davis behind the residence; she is accused of being in possession of a stolen purse and credit cards. Further investigation also revealed Davis had allegedly entered the residence illegally and was in possession of a shopping cart taken from an area business. Davis was arrested and lodged at the Marble Valley Correctional Facility in lieu of $20,000 bail. She is scheduled to appear in Rutland Superior Court on charges of grand larceny, unlawful trespass into an occupied dwelling, petty larceny from a motor vehicle and violation of conditions of release.

Vermont State Police Beat

Feb. 9

9:34 p.m. – Troopers were notified of an erratic driver on U.S. Route 4 in Mendon. The vehicle was located in Killington with the operator identified as 59-year-old Glenn Burres of Killington. During the investigation, Burres is alleged to have shown signs of intoxication. Burres was subsequently arrested and charged with DUI. He was released on a citation to appear in Rutland Superior Court at a later date.

Feb. 12

12:16 a.m. – Troopers stopped a vehicle on State Street in Rutland after observing a traffic violation. The driver was identified as 31-year-old John Gould of Rutland and was alleged to have shown several indications of intoxication. Gould was subsequently arrested and charged with DUI. He was processed and issued a citation to appear in Rutland Superior Court at a later date.

Feb. 15

9:49 a.m. – State Police responded to a one-car crash on West Street in Proctor. The investigation determined 19-year-old Brandon Wickes lost control of his vehicle, exited the roadway and struck a tree stump, according to police. The vehicle then became airborne and struck a tree. Wickes was treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries and transported by the Regional Ambulance Service to the Rutland Regional Medical Center. Troopers say charges are pending.
