Last year the former Salem Tavern closed its doors, leaving a gaping hole in Salem’s culinary landscape. That all changed on Thursday, Feb. 8, when the ribbon was cut to open the new Railroad Street Tavern.

Newly renovated inside and out, owners Jill Clough Fronhofer and husband Kyle are excited to welcome their guests to the town’s newest establishment.

As anyone who has ever dabbled in the restaurant business knows, it’s a lot of long hours and hard work. That is not lost on the Fronhofers.

“It’s a family affair,” Jill said, adding that they all know what lies ahead.

As to the man behind the grill, Kyle simply smiled and said, “I love to cook.”

What is it he’ll be cooking? Daughter Lydia describes the fare as “upscale pub food.”

Prior to the ribbon cutting, the Fronhofers were presented with a certificate of membership to the Salem Chamber of Commerce by co-President Laura Dunham.

The new eatery is currently open at 4 p.m. on Thursdays and Saturdays, and noon on Fridays. The tavern closes each evening at 8 p.m.

Reservations are recommended and can be made by calling 518-854-8220.
