What a difference a few weeks can make. A month ago the Hartford girls basketball team traveled to Warrensburg and suffered a 13 point loss. It was the first league loss of the season for the Tanagers. The loss came on the heels of a surprising defeat at home against Granville.

Fastforward to Wednesday night. Hartford once again made the trip to Warrensburg. This time for a rematch with the Burghers in the league semifinals. This time the Tanagers took control in the middle quarters and held on for a 52-47 victory to return to the Adirondack League championship game after a one-year hiatus.

Hartford now gets a rematch of the 2022 title tilt when they face top-seeded Corinth on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Hudson Falls High School.

The game was tied 11-11 after the first quarter, but then the Tanagers began to impose their will. Hartford outscored the Burghers 29-17 in the middle quarters to lead 40-28 heading to the fourth.

Warrensburg wasn’t done. The Burghers cut the deficit to three with under a minute to play, but couldn’t get any closer.

McKenzie Johnson led Hartford with 18 points. Alawanah Dunda contributed with 12.

Warrensburg was led by Elli York’s 16 points. Hope Sherman added 14.

Warrensburg will now play Hadley-Luzerne in a consolation game on Friday at 7 pm in Warrensburg.

Hartford improves to 13-5 on the season. Warrensburg drops to 16-3.
