Each year the Hoosick Valley High School Drama Club offers up a timely and well-produced presentation.
Last year, the club tackled “Seussical,” a comedic musical based on the many stories of Dr. Seuss. This time around, it’s “Mamma Mia!” as they bring to life ABBA’s hit musical featuring many of the 1970s songs by the Swedish group.
This year’s effort features more than 50 students in grades 7-12, and according to the club’s press release, “shows just how much a small school’s drama program can achieve.”
The students are supported by a team of faculty, parents and community volunteers, as well as returning alumni who have transitioned from former cast to today’s production team.
Adam Myott is the director and says his goal is “to create an environment where students have fun while giving championship level performances. The program works to make every student, be they on stage or off, feel valued.”
All areas of the production — including lights, sound, costumes and managing the box office — are student-run.
“The students are on stage for almost the entire production, creating an ensemble experience that highlights the abilities of everyone involved,” Myott said.
The performances are slated for Thursday and Friday, Feb. 8 and 9, at 7 p.m., and again on Saturday, Feb. 10, at 2 p.m., at the Hoosic Valley Elementary School auditorium, located at 22 Pleasant Ave. in Schaghticoke.
