Whitehall- John “Jack” Allen Bunker, 86, of Whitehall passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord Wednesday morning January 10, 2024, at the Washington Center in Argyle, NY following a long illness.
Jack was born December 30, 1937, to John N. and Marion (Loomis) Bunker. He was born and raised on the family farm in Low Hampton, NY, which led to his love of farming. He began his life working on local farms until going to work for the Town of Hampton. He then managed a large dairy farm (Ward farm) for many years. After the farm was sold, he then spent 15 years as part of the Buildings and Grounds crew for Washington County until his retirement in 2004. In his retirement years, he loved helping his family and neighbors.
Throughout his life, Jack enjoyed hunting, his animals, and loving his family. His grandchildren Lexy and Tyler were the light of his life, spending many mornings getting them ready and taking them to school. He never missed a recital, sporting event, or horse show when they were involved. Those who knew Jack knew that he always had a smile and a laugh for everyone he encountered. He was always on the hunt for a good deal and wasn’t shy about haggling to try to get one.
Survivors include his wife and love of his life Barbara Bunker of Whitehall, 3 daughters LuAnne Hadley (Bob Begins) of Rutland, Kim Brooks (James) of Whitehall, and Jo Hadley of Ticonderoga, grandchildren Lexy Brooks of Whitehall and Airman Tyler Brooks of Florida, son John Bunker, and sister Marjorie “Marge” Christy of Low Hampton. He is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his son Steven Hadley, 2 brothers Paul “Pete” Bunker and Eugene “Gene” Bunker, 2 sisters Marion Turner and Florence Pickett, and nephew Albert “Abby” Williams.
Friends may call on Wednesday, January 17th from 5-7pm with a memorial service to follow at the Durfee Funeral Home in Fair Haven, VT. Burial will be at a later date in the Sciota Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, PO Box 96011 Washington, DC 20090-6011 or at www.alz.org.
