The Lake George volleyball team earned a shot at a volleyball state title with a 3-0 sweep of Tuxedo in the Class D semifinals Saturday at Cool Insuring Arena.
Set scores were 25-16, 25-11, and 26-24.
The Lakers trailed 24-20 in the decisive third set, but YAnna Richichi served six straight points to rally her team to the set win and the match.
Evie Burke led Lake George with 12 kills, 18 digs, and 11 points.
Richichi served up 13 points in the match.
With the win, Lake George advances to today’s 2 p.m. Class D state championship match against Chautauqua Lake. The Thunderbirds rallied to defeat Candor 3-2 in the other semifinal.
The Lakers will be vying for their first state title and playing in their first championship match since winning Class D in 2001. Lake George also lost in the state Class C final in 1992.
The Lakers are 17-3 on the season.
