Donations to Granville’s Holiday Lights program

The lights and decorations that adorn Granville’s Veterans Park and the buildings along Main Street are a labor of love to install each year, but also come at a cost. These expenses are defrayed a bit by generous donations from the community, and 2023 is no exception.

Great Meadow FCU is the title sponsor for this year’s display, donating $5,000. Jack Williams of Newmont Slate contributed $1,000 for the purchase of Christmas trees and lights along Main Street. Neil Patel of Chapman’s Store in Middle Granville also donated $1,000, while Mayor Paul Labas donated $500 to the efforts.

The village has also received over 100 sets of handmade knitted hats and mittens created by Linda Barrett and Mary Jane Brislin. In addition to these items, over 50 knitted blankets have been provided. They will be distributed free of charge, along with any other items received from collection sites around the village at the tree-lighting event Dec. 1.

The monetary donations are used to purchase new decorations, as well as gifts for children.
