A few times a season, the Warrensburg-Lake George football team fashions a performance that is so impressive that most fans have never witnessed anything like it. Friday night was one of those moments.
The Wolverines cruised into the Section II Class D Super Bowl by scoring 63 first half points on their way to a dominating 69-15 win over defending champion Cambridge-Salem in the semifinal round.
Warrensburg-Lake George led 22-8 after a quarter and exploded for 41 points in the second to earn their spot in the title game.
Nick Jeckel ran for touchdowns of 18 and 62 yards in the opening stanza. Gavin McCabe added a 10-yard scoring run.
Cambridge-Salem tried to stay close with a 20-yard scoring toss from Stephen Yakubec to Baxter Mattson to make it 16-8 late in the quarter.
The Wolverines imposed their will in the second. McCabe scored on runs of 55 and 75 yards and hauled in a 55-yard pass from Caden Allen.
Allen also connected with Jack Welch on a 57-yard scoring strike.
Jeckel and Zach Olden both ran interceptions back for touchdowns.
Isaiah Lohret scored a seven-yard TD run in the stanza for Cambridge-Salem.
Kyle Lanfear had a 48-yard touchdown run in the fourth for Warrensburg-Lake George.
McCabe finished with 208 yards on the ground for the Wolverines who amassed 390 rushing yards on the night.
No. 1 Warrensburg-Lake George improved to 9-0 on the season and will meet No. Stillwater in the Class D Super Bowl next Saturday at 11 a.m. at Troy High School.
Cambridge-Salem ends the season 5-5.
