The high school football season is starting to wind down as yesterday Section II announced the pairings for the Section II playoffs. Crossover game matchups were also released.
A pair of teams representing Adirondack League schools will look to claim a title in Class D. Top-seeded Warrensburg-Lake George will host No. 4 Cambridge-Salem at 7 p.m. Friday night in one semifinal. No. 3 Canjajoharie-Fort Plain will play at No. 2 Stillwater in the other semifinal.
In Class C there was a three-way tie for the No. 1 spot. Schuylerville was awarded the No. 1 seed due to quarter points. The Black Horses will meet No. 4 Johnstown Friday night at Queensbury. No. 2 Fonda will host No. 3 Hoosick Falls-Tamarac in the other semifinal.
In Class A Friday night Burnt Hills will play at Averill Park and Bethlehem will travel to Niskayuna.
In Class B Schalmont plays at Glens Falls Friday night and Mechanicville-Hoosic Valley visits unbeaten Ravena.
The championship games are scheudled for Nov. 10 and 11. On Nov. 10 at Troy, the Class D sectional championship is set for 11 a.m., followed by the Class C final at 3 p.m. and Class AA at 7 p.m. On Nov. 11 at Guilderland, the Class B championship is scheduled for 11 a.m., followed at 3 p.m. by the Class A final.
Two local teams will meet in a crossover game when Granville-Whitehall plays at Greenwich. The date and time has yet to be determined.
In an interesting twist, Corinth/Hadley-Luzerne who fielded a junior varsity team this season was approved to play a varsity crossover game. The Mountaineers will play Hudson Falls at home.
