The Fort Ann girls soccer team wears the Section II Class D girls soccer crown after a thrilling 3-2 overtime win over Northville on Friday night.

Freshman Olivia Winchell scored the game-winning golden goal in the extra session to hand the Cardinals the win.

It was the first Class D title for Fort Ann since 2018. The victory avenges a loss to the Falcons in last year’s championship game.

Northville got goals in the first 40 minutes from Abby Armstrong and Leah Valovic.

Winchell also scored in the first half for the Cardinals. Savannah Aratare brought Fort Ann even off a pass from Winchell in the 53rd minute.

On the overtime goal, Winchell took a throw-in near the left corner flag, split two defenders, beat another, and launched a perfect shot into the upper corner of the net to set off a wild celebration.

Baylee Wright played a strong game in goal with four saves for the Cardinals.

Lilian Chamberlain finished with six saves for the Falcons.

Fort Ann is now 12-4-2 on the season.
