As those who asked me recently can attest, as the owner of several local media companies my views usually encompass these basic elements:
- Local media is an essential component/fabric of a community.
- Local media is much more than just printed newspapers. It includes social media, websites, email newsletters, podcasts and much more.
- Diversity in delivering content is vital and local media needs to continue covering all corners of a community – from governmental affairs to social gatherings. Local media needs to feel the pulse of the community and know what’s happening in the area.
- It is vital for communities to support local media, either by subscribing or advertising in them. And supporting those advertisers who support local media.
It is with this as a backdrop that I am so excited to announce our latest endeavor — broadcasting!
Thanks to a generous amount of support from Telescope, as well as Zappone’s Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram, Hoagland Property Management and Fred’s Granville Pharmacy to start, we will launch our new LOCAL broadcasting series with this Saturday afternoon’s Granville/Whitehall football game against Watervliet.
Tune in to NYVT Media’s YouTube channel or the Granville Sentinel and Whitehall Times Facebook pages to find the link to watch this game with broadcast quality. Area broadcasting legend and NYVT Sports Editor Keith Harrington has the play by play. You’ll think ESPN is in town to cover this game.
In future months, we will expand the investment we have made in broadcast equipment to cover events as diverse as the Tractor Parade, village and town government meetings, spelling bees, science fairs and much more!
We hope you tune in and enjoy the latest chapter in our community media company’s growth!
