Granville girls lose 2 on soccer pitch

Poultney made the short trek across the New York border and defeated Granville 3-1 in non-league girls’ soccer on Saturday.

Poultney led 2-0 at the half and held on the rest of the way.

Kaydyn L’Esperance stayed red hot for the Blue Devils with a goal. Bella Mack and Eme Silverman also found the back of the net.

Silverman also had an assist for Poultney.

Paige Taylor scored the only Golden Horde goal.

Kierra Rice and Taylor split the game in goal for Granville. Poultney coach Hannah Latulippe had high praise for Rice’s effort in the second half.

Poultney is 2-1 on the season. Granville is 0-2.

Earlier in the week, Granville faced a difficult challenge in the season opener. Adirondack League powerhouse Bolton-Warrensburg took down the Golden Horde 10-0 on their home pitch.

The host team jumped out to a 9-0 lead at the half and tacked on another goal in the second half.

Madison Goodspeed led B-W with a hat trick, finding the back of the net three times. Elli York added two goals; Hailey Goodspeed contributed two goals and an assist.

Avah Fiorentino and Danica Staepel had one goal each. Maille Kelley chipped in a goal and an assist.

Megan Langworthy had two assists. Zailey Baker, Avril LaFountain

And Halley LaBreecque each had a helper.

Hope Sherman picked up the shutout in goal with three saves. Hannah Daken, Sophia Fiorentino, Caitlin O’Donnell, and Maille Kelley all helped secure the shutout for B-W. Ila Hubert also played well.

Kierra Rice had five saves and Paige Taylor had nine saves in net for Granville.

Bolton-Warrensburg was 1-0, 1-1 after the win. Granville fell to 0-1, 0-1.
