The severe thunderstorms and high winds that struck the Capital Region hit the Village of Hoosick Falls particularly heavy Thursday night, Sept. 7.

As of 6:30 a.m., there were still more than a dozen locations with trees and wires down. Power was sporadic around the village. National Grid had crews working through the night with more support expected this morning.

Despite the damage in the village as well as several locations along the NYS Route 22 corridor in the Town of Hoosick, the Hoosick Falls Central School District remained open. Buses will wait for students at the end of the closed roads if the students can safely navigate the street, according to the district. They understand students may not be able to attend in some areas.

The water pumping station was down for a while but according to Mayor Rob Allen it is now once again operational and water pressure has returned to normal.

The village’s iconic Wood Park had a large number of trees and branches come down, but the gazebo was untouched.

There were no reports of any injuries related to the storm.
