Field Hockey is typically a low-scoring sport. I guess someone forgot to tell Granville. The Golden Horde fashioned an offensive onslaught for the second straight game, cruising past Salem-Cambridge Friday 7-0 in Adirondack-Wasaren League action. Granville has outscored their opponents 14-0 in the first two games.
Salem-Cambridge is usually one of the Golden Horde’s most challenging opponents, but not on this day. Granville jumped out to a commanding 3-0 first quarter lead and was never challenged.
Kenzie Martell, Claire Gould, and Melissa Beaver scored goals in the first quarter. Haylie Barber and Alyssa Martindale picked up assists.
Granville increased their advantage to 6-0 before the half. Beaver, Makenna McKnight, and Barber tallied goals in the second period. Gould, Caroline Baker, and Lillian Baker assisted.
Lillian Baker closed out the scoring with a fourth quarter goal off an assist from Megan Hover.
Not to be outdone, the Golden Horde defense and goalie Megan Decker recorded their second consecutive shutout. Decker was not forced to make a save.
“Very proud of how the team is coming together,” Granville coach Katie Barber said.
Brailyn Wright finished with 21 saves for Salem-Cambridge.
Granville outshot Salem-Cambridge 29-0.
Granville is now 1-0, 2-0. Salem-Cambridge is 0-2, 0-2.
