Wearing blue and purple, most of the staff at Slate Valley Center on State Route 40 in Granville recognized Men’s Health Awareness Month, which takes place annually in June.
Men’s Health Awareness Month focuses on men of all ages to take charge of their overall health by implementing healthy living decisions. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 63% of men of color report not getting regular health screenings, such as for prostate and even in some cases breast cancer.
“We always look to October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is mostly directed toward women, but Men’s Health Month is all about screenings for all kinds of diseases that affect the male population,” said recreation director Andrea Kelley.
