It wasn’t what they expected, but the season’s final game still turned out to be a thriller for the Granville Unified basketball team. When the opposing team could not play, Golden Horde athletic director Justin Nassivera and the coaching staff jumped into action to make sure the Senior Day game would still take place.

“The school we were supposed to play had to cancel but we wanted to keep the game so Coach Nazz was able to have still the referees come and we were able to get a couple of volunteers to help make two teams,” Granville coach Katie Barber said. “We had a Granville Blue team and a Granville White team.”

Maybe it was meant to be. The Game ended up being what ESPN would call an Instant Classic.

“What a game it was,” Barber explained. “The score was tied at the end of regulation 57-57. We had a two-minute overtime and the blue team ended up winning 61-59.”

Before the contest graduating seniors Natalie Walker and Connor Martin were honored.

Martin led the White Team with 24 points. Dean Angorve added 16 and Zander Wilson 13. Walked chipped in four points and RJ Monger had two points including the basket that sent the game to overtime.

“Eli Douglas had a great defensive game and made a lot of opportunities offensively for his team to score,” Barbed added.

Jasmyn McMahon had a stellar performance with 31 points to pace the Blue Team. Brady Stewart contributed 26 points. Devin Montbriand added 4 points.

Gavin Mitchell, Lauren Bascom and Megan Decker all had great games, rebounded great, and ran the plays to help the offense.

The team closes the season with an Assembly game at Hudson Falls today at 1 p.m.
