Woman in animal abuse case arrested again

The Granville woman who stands accused of several alleged animal abuse counts involving horses, rabbits and goats, is in trouble with the law once again, this time for an incident that occurred on Saturday night, May 13.

State Police said they were called to 55-year-old Wendy Murphy’s Granville home for a report of a verbal dispute where, according to the trooper’s press release, she is alleged to have pushed the other party and then attempted to prevent them from calling 911 for help. The report goes on to say that while being taken into custody, Murphy resisted arrest and was uncooperative with the investigation.

Murphy was transported to the Queensbury substation where she was formally charged with criminal mischief in the fourth degree, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration in the second degree and harassment in the second degree.

Murphy appeared in Granville Town Court earlier this month to face the remaining charges of “overdriving, torturing and injuring horses.” She was arrested on 31 counts last September although 10 of those counts have since been dismissed. She faces a hearing in July as to what evidence will be considered permissible at a pending trial.

Murphy contends the horses involved were at the time recent rescues that came to her in poor health and she claimed to have veterinary records to prove it. She said the State Police and animal control officials refused to inspect those documents.

Murphy was transported to the Washington County Correctional Facility pending an arraignment, the results of which are not yet available.
