School budget public hearing draws no one

As one might expect, with a proposed Granville school district budget going before voters that calls for a 10% tax decrease, no one came to the Monday, May 8, public hearing on the budget to speak against it.

In fact, the hearing was closed with no public comment at all. The district used some of its increased state aid and money from the unexpended fund balance to craft the reduction in taxes.

In what was a very brief school board meeting, the members accepted donations to the school’s music department from the Dalrymple Company, Margaret and John O’Brien, James and Joanne Reid as well as John and Christine Reilly. The four donations totaled $425.

Daniel Poucher was appointed interim principal at Mary J. Tanner School to act as a mentor to the newly appointed primary school principal, Breanne Taylor. The appointment is effective May 15.

The board concluded its business by entering executive session to discuss a personnel matter after which no further action was taken.
