West Rutland’s Guay, Fair Haven’s Ramey Honored by VBCA

The Vermont Basketball Coaches Association announced their Players of the Year, and a pair of local players were honored.

Peyton Guay of West Rutland was named the VBCA Girls Basketball Player of the Year.

Guay led the Golden Horde to an unbeaten record this season and eclipsed the 1,000 career point mark. The sophomore currently has scored 1,281 points.

Guay was also named to the VBCA Division III/IV Dream Dozen for the 12 best underclass players in the state.

Fair Haven’s Sawyer Ramey was named the VBCA Boys Basketball Player of the Year.

. The senior finished his career with 1,348 points and had more than 500 assists. He led the Slaters to a state championship in his freshman year. Fair Haven reached the state Division II semifinals this season.

Ramey was also recently named the Vermont Gatorade Player of the Year.

Guay’s coach Carl Serrani received the John Wooden Legacy Award. Serrani coached West Side to a 20-0 regular season and a Division IV state crown.

A couple of other local notes from the VBCA Senior Games. Poultney’s Marcus Lewis scored 13 points to lead the South boys team to a 89-85 win over the North.

Poultney senior Hannah Welch won the 3-point shooting contest with a 12 makes.

Arianna Combs of West Rutland scored 12 points to pace the South girls team to a 53-51 win.
