
Walter K. Duel, 88, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded in the love of his daughters and granddaughters on Sunday, March 12, 2023.
Born in Granville, New York, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Katherine (Williams) Duel. Walter was a graduate of Granville High School and went on to proudly defend his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. During his time in the Navy, he got to travel and see the world and enjoyed the time he was able to live in London.
Walter married his beloved late wife of 50 years Elizabeth “Betty” (Baldwin) Duel on July 20, 1968, at the Scotia United Methodist Church.
He retired from General Electric Company as an inspector after many dedicated years of service.
Walter enjoyed reading, woodworking, genealogy and camping. He was one of the founding members of the Sippin’ Sams Camping Club. Above all, Walter cherished the time he was able to spend with his family. He will be fondly remembered for his witty sense of humor and his generous demeanor.
Walter is survived by his beloved daughters Kimberly Rickard and Rebecca Barger (Kenneth). He was the proud grandfather to Emily and Laura Rickard and Lilly Barger. He is also survived by his brother Ronald Duel and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth “Betty” Duel, sister Sharon Moyer (Art) and brother Raymond Duel (Phyllis).
Calling hours for Walter will be held on Thursday, March 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd., Glenville. A brief service will follow at 8 p.m.
Interment with military honors will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 17, at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. Those wishing to process to the cemetery should meet at the funeral home by 12:15 p.m.
