PREDICTED COLD WEATHER CANCELS WINTERFEST: Hudson Crossing Park’s sixth annual Winterfest and take a friendsSnowmobiling event, originally scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 4, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Hudson Crossing Park in Schuylerville has been canceled in the interest of safety due to sub-zero temperatures being predicted.

Kick off the celebration of the Champlain Canal’s bicentennial at Hudson Crossing Park’s sixth annual Winterfest on Saturday, Feb. 4, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This year’s theme is “Cold Front on the Canal and Take a Friend Snowmobiling.”

Learn about ice harvesting on the Champlain Canal, watch a cold-water rescue demonstration by Schuyler Hose, enjoy Hudson Crossing Park’s sledding hill, take part in the snow sculpture contest and much more.

Families are invited to try their hand at winter tracking and cooking over an open fire. There also will be plenty of hot chocolate and goodies on hand to snack on from the bake sale.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to take a fun, safe snowmobile ride starting at the Dix Bridge, located on the scenic Hudson River/Champlain Canal Lock 5.

Each participant will be introduced to and instructed on the proper operation and safety of a snowmobile prior to being guided on a controlled ride within Hudson Crossing Park by experienced club members.

Trail-grooming equipment will be on display, and participants will have an opportunity to talk with club members and officers to learn more about the sport and trail system. Sanitized helmets, hot refreshments and a warming fire will be provided.

Children are invited to ride on a sled operated by a parent or guardian or an experienced club member. Area clubs will have sleds available for use.

Winterfest and Take a Friend Snowmobiling are both free and open to the public, although donations to support Hudson Crossing Park are gratefully accepted.

Hudson Crossing Park is centered around Champlain Canal Lock 5 Island, just north of Schuylerville, on New York State Route 4.
