Good Morning! With the Border Country Sports Report, I’m Keith Harrington. 

Local Wrestlers Place at Ken Baker Tournament 

Salem-Cambridge, Whitehall and Granville all competed Saturday in the Ken Baker wrestling tournament in Stillwater. Several local grapplers came home with podium finishes. 

Salem-Cambridge placed third as a team with 112 points. Whitehall was fifth with 102.5 and Granville ninth with 63. 

One of the biggest matches of the day, maybe of the season, featured Granville’s Brent Perry against Whitehall’s Troy Austin. The two rivals and good friends both reached states a year ago. Austin got the best of Perry this time around with an 8-1 decision to claim the 189 pound title. 

For Salem-Cambridge Angie Dill was first at 110 pounds and Brayton Cary won the title at 145 pounds. 

Luke LaBlanc was second at 102 pounds for Cambridge-Salem. Logan Williams finished second at 285 pounds. Henry Dill was third at 110 pounds. 

Whitehall’s Kyle Lavin finished second in the 145 pound division. Sawyer Ostrander placed second at 152 pounds. Chad Monty was third for the Railroaders at 172 pounds. 

Also for the Golden Horde, Jaxon Torres was third at 145 pounds. Nick Crum placed fourth at 132 pounds. 

Salem Rolls Past Mekeel Christian 

The Salem girls basketball team tuned up for the final week of Adirondack League play, rolling past Mekeel Christian 49-19 in a non-league contest. 

A 16-5 second quarter for Salem blew the game open. 

Mary Kate McPhee paced the Generals with a 20 point performance.

Hannah Gongola contributed 11 points for Salem. Sophia Keays added seven points. . 

Salem improved to 12-4. 

Lake George Hands Scots Loss

Lake George threw a wrench into the Adirondack League boys basketball race, upsetting Argyle in their own building Saturday 58-53. 

The Warriors fashioned a 10 point first half lead and held off the Scots the rest of the way. 

Sam Burns led Lake George with 18 points. Angelo Bergman added 15 points. 

Dan Barber scored nine points and pulled down 14 rebounds for the Warriors. Aiden Osborne recorded six points and 13 rebounds. Jack Welch also scored six points. 

Hunter Ingram poured in 25 points for Argyle. Brandon Saunder had 13. 

 Dru Austin had 11 rebounds for the Scots. Cayden McWhorter scored eight points.

Lake George is now 8-5, 8-8. Argyle is 9-4, 10-7.
